Founder

Anthony is a seasoned digital marketing executive with more than 15 years of experience driving growth for new ventures and popular brands including Vistaprint, USA TODAY, and AOL.

Most recently he was Head of Marketing for Willing, Inc., an online estate planning startup backed by Y Combinator, Founders Fund, Accomplice and other venture capital investors. Prior to Willing, Anthony was Head of Demand Generation for Vistaprint Digital where he managed a team across search engine optimization, content marketing, public relations, paid search, email marketing, affiliate marketing, and web analytics. He was also Director of Product Management at Gannett where he led search engine optimization and audience development for USA TODAY and the company's 100+ local newspaper and broadcast websites. Anthony spent five years leading search engine optimization at AOL where he was one of seven recipients of AOL's Heroes Award for outstanding performance.

Anthony is a graduate of Harvard University and past speaker at Search Marketing Expo, Search Engine Strategies, eMetrics, and eTail conferences.

Following Google's Panda and Penguin algorithm updates, this leading coupons & deals website saw its web traffic from organic search plummet. After several well-known SEO consultants failed to restore the website’s Google presence and recover its associated organic web traffic - EDGERANK was hired.

Approach

We knew that if a reconsideration request to Google would be necessary, it was important to practice due diligence. First, we identified the site’s underlying quality issues and set out to fix them. We mirrored Google's own quality rating evaluators by conducting a series of recorded interviews with web visitors to the client’s site (and that of their competitors). The interview questions were derived from a blog post written by Google’s Head of Search.


Results

EDGERANK worked diligently on backlink removal (prior to the release of Google’s Disavow Tool), content pruning, and used backchannels to communicate directly with Google. As a result, the manual actions were lifted and organic search started growing again. The client's company was successfully acquired by a major digital publisher a few years later.
